Diabellivariationerna Då och Nu - Diabolic Diabelli!

Diabolic Diabelli! That is the name of Emmy Lindströms variation over a theme from Anton Diabelli. In this project, Mats Jansson has commissioned new variations from Swedish composers on Anton Diabelli's little waltz from 1819. The same theme that Beethoven used for his 33 variations Op. 120, as well as fifty Austrian composers after Diabelli sent it to them, requesting one variation each. All these 50 variations, plus Beethoven's 33, were published in the spring of 1824 under the collective title "Vaterländischer Künstlerverien" (Patriotic Artists' Association). Now, 200 years later, 18 Swedish composers, at the request of Mats Jansson, have composed new variations on Diabelli's theme, placing the little waltz from 1819 in a contemporary Swedish light. Variations by Anders Nilsson, Andrea Tarrodi, Anna-Lena Laurin, Benjamin Staern, Emmy Lindström, Johan Ullén, Lars-Åke Franke-Blom, Paula af Malmborg Ward, Rolf Martinsson, Staffan Storm, and others complement Beethoven in the second half of the concert. The entire collection has been created with generous support from the Helge Ax:son Johnson Foundation.
